Regular Maintenance: Daily & Weekly Cleaning

    Step 1: Remove Loose Debris

Use a soft-bristle broom or a low-power vacuum to sweep away dirt, sand, and dust. Regular sweeping prevents debris from becoming embedded in textured surfaces, thereby prolonging the life of your foam.

Marine Dek Tip: Avoid using high-powered shop vacs or stiff brushes that may scratch or lift the
    edges of the foam.

Step 2: Prepare a Gentle Cleaning Solution

Mix warm water with a few drops of a pH-neutral soap, such as mild dish detergent. This will effectively clean the foam without damaging the adhesive or surface integrity.

Avoid: Bleach, ammonia, citrus cleaners, acetone, or alcohol-based products. These can cause the foam to break down or fade.

    Step 3: Lightly Scrub

Wipe the surface using a soft microfiber cloth, sponge, or mop. For textured or grooved foam, gently scrub with a soft-bristle brush to lift dirt from the crevices.

Step 4: Rinse and Air Dry

Wipe the surface with a clean, damp cloth to remove any soapy residue. Then, allow the floor to air dry completely before storing or covering the boat.

Marine Dek Tip: Always let the flooring dry thoroughly to prevent trapped moisture, which can lead to mold or mildew underneath the mat.

Deep Cleaning: Stains, Spills, and Mildew

    Oil, Grease, or Ink Stains

    1. Blot the spill immediately with a dry cloth—do not rub.
    2. Make a paste using baking soda and water.
    3. Apply to the stain and let it sit for 10–15 minutes.
    4. Gently scrub with a soft brush or sponge.
    5. Rinse thoroughly and dry. Spot-test any

Marine Dek Tip: Spot-test any new cleaning method on a hidden area first to ensure compatibility with your mat's colour and texture.

    Mold or Mildew

    1. Mix 1 cup of water with one tablespoon of white vinegar.
    2. Lightly spray the solution onto the affected area.
    3. Use a soft brush to scrub the area gently.
    4. Rinse with clean water and air dry.

Optional Boost: Add a few drops of tea tree oil to the mix for a natural antifungal boost that also smells great.

Long-Term Care Tips from Marine Dek Mat

    • Cover Your Boat: When not in use, keep your boat covered to reduce sun exposure and minimize dirt buildup. UV rays can cause discoloration over time.

    • Avoid Dragging Heavy Items: Chairs, coolers, or gear bags can tear or compress EVA foam if dragged. Lift and place items carefully.

    • Check Seams and Edges: Periodically inspect for lifting edges or water intrusion. Re-secure with marine-grade adhesive if needed.

    • Don't Pressure Wash Up Close: You may use a pressure washer from a distance (2+ feet away) and on a low setting, but never directly on seams or edges.

Why Marine Dek Mat Flooring Is a Smart Choice

EVA foam by Marine Dek Mat isn't just about looks—it offers anti-slip properties, comfort underfoot, sound dampening, and UV resistance, making it ideal for any marine environment. With proper care, your foam deck can stay vibrant and functional for years.
